From a small group of enthusiastic beginners, the ukulele group has developed into a large group of committed musicians, who enjoy both rehearsing and playing gigs at various venues. The members have fun and enjoy being part of a lively group.

We even have our own stage name - O.A.Ps (Olton's Amazing Pluckers).

The facilitator for this group is Jim H.

Rehearsals

We have a packed rehearsal room on Thursday morning - it is always lively and great fun. We are always increasing our repertoire to include lots of different types of music.

We now have our band polo shirts with the O.A.Ps logo, and our music stand banners which makes us all look very professional.

Charity events

We are very much in demand locally to appear at events to raise money for worthy causes.

Our ukulele concert at the Methodist Church in Acocks Green raised money for Christian Aid, and we also sang in one of the gardens in St Bernards Road as part of 'St Bernards in Bloom' which raises money for the Stroke Association.

Other performances

We have lots of bookings coming in, including repeat appearances. It is great fun when our audience joins in the singing. We especially enjoy our annual appearance at the December Core meeting. Other gigs include:

  • Deerhurst Court, Solihull
  • Moments Dementia Group
  • Budbrooke WI
  • u3a Core Meetings
