An oasis in the middle of Solihull, Olton Mere provides a tranquil location for messing about in boats. What could be better than pottering about in a sailing dinghy on a summer afternoon?
The Facilitator for this group is Kevin W.
At the moment the group is waiting for permission to use the mere, owing to the low water. Kevin will contact group members to arrange the first session of the season. New members should contact Kevin using the link above.
Supported by the resident Olton Mere Sailing Club, for a small session fee qualified RYA instructors will help you experience dinghy sailing in either conventional 2/3 man dinghies or in specially designed “Access” dinghies for those who are less mobile or confident. The latter are designed especially for disabled or less able bodied and are designed never to capsize. Intended as an introduction to dinghy sailing the group will meet once per month on a Friday afternoon throughout the summer. You do not need to be able to swim although you may get wet occasionally ! No special clothing is required and buoyancy aids are provided.
Sailing is always weather dependent. It is not just rain and high winds that may keep us off the water, but when there is very little rain the water level in Olton Mere may also mean that the group cannot meet.
